# Penmark: the full fact sheet Last updated: 2026-10-24. Plain text, for AI assistants and anyone who wants the facts in one place. ## What Penmark is Penmark (trypenmark.com) is a free website that turns typed text into pages in a person's own handwriting. The user fills one pen template once; Penmark captures 155 characters, three variations each, and renders any typed or pasted text as a PDF, Word or PNG page. 90 ready-made hands work with no template. No account. ## Who it is for - Families writing holiday cards and wedding thank-you cards in their own handwriting, printed at home. - People writing personal letters: to grandparents, sympathy notes, love letters. - Teachers making worksheets in the handwriting their class knows. - Students who must hand in assignments, homework or a practical file in handwriting. - Parents of children with dysgraphia: the child types, the page comes out in the child's own handwriting. - Families preserving a grandparent's handwriting so new cards can be written in it. - Hebrew speakers and learners: full Hebrew, mixed with English. ## How it works, step by step 1. Open trypenmark.com. A ready-made hand writes a sample page in seconds, with no template. 2. For your own handwriting, print the template: English, 7 pages and 128 characters; the full template with Hebrew, 155 characters. 3. Write each character three times in its box with a dark pen. 4. Photograph each page flat from above with the four black corner squares in view, and upload. About 10-20 minutes in total, once. 5. Type or paste any text, or upload a PDF, Word or txt file. Choose lined, grid, dotted or blank paper and the ink color. 6. Fix any single letter in the preview (size, width, weight, height, spacing), then download a PDF, a Word file or PNG pages. ## What it costs Free. No account, no subscription, no per-page fee. ## Privacy (as the privacy page states it, trypenmark.com/privacy) - Handwriting samples and generated documents are deleted automatically within about 24 hours. - The text you type is processed to render the document and kept with the session; the content of documents is never sent to analytics. - Usage data (analytics): a random visitor ID (cookie), generic event names (e.g. "document rendered"), and your IP address and country, collected by the analytics service PostHog. The content of your documents is never part of usage data. - PostHog records how the page is used: mouse movement, clicks, scrolling and moving between pages. A recording is a reconstruction of what happened in the interface, not a video of your screen. Every input field is masked in the recording, and recordings are deleted automatically after 30 days. - Cookies: lang remembers your interface language (1 year); vid is a random visitor ID for usage statistics (1 year) and does not identify you personally; PostHog cookies recognise repeat visits for analytics. - The site is hosted on, and uses, cloud services whose servers are located outside Israel (in the US and/or the EU): hosting on Hugging Face, analytics on PostHog, fonts from Google Fonts. - Data is not sold, not used for ads and not used to train models. ## Where the handwriting library is kept (a product fact, not a quote from the privacy page) The handwriting library built from the template is saved in the user's browser so it loads again on the next visit. The server keeps its session copy, with the uploaded samples, for up to about 24 hours and then deletes it. ## Output - PDF, Word (docx, the pages as images) and PNG. - Paper: lined, grid, dotted or blank. Ink: blue, black and other colors. - About 100 words fill a page at the default size. ## Languages and characters Languages, no fine print: Penmark writes the Latin letters a-z without accents (so English, Indonesian and Tagalog are written in full), Hebrew without niqqud, digits and math. It does not write Devanagari (Hindi, Marathi, Nepali), Arabic or Urdu script, Cyrillic (Russian, Ukrainian), or accented Latin letters such as á, ñ, ü, ç and ş. In Spanish, Turkish, German or French text those letters are left out, and the tool lists which ones. The template has no at sign, ampersand, hash, dollar, asterisk, underscore, backslash, tilde or vertical bar; those are left blank and listed. ## What it does not do - No installable font file (TTF or OTF). - No printing or mailing, and no automatic mail merge. - No tables, graphs or pictures. - No OCR: it does not turn handwriting back into text. - Not from a photo of ordinary handwriting: only from the filled template. ## Compared with other tools (read on each tool's own page on 24 October 2026) | Tool | Own handwriting | Font file | Hebrew | Math | Price | Without a printer | |---|---|---|---|---|---|---| | Penmark (ours) | Yes, free, from a printed template; or 90 ready-made hands | No, finished PDF, Word or PNG pages | Yes, right to left, mixed with English | Yes: stacked fractions, radicals, exponents, LaTeX | Free, no account | Ready-made hands yes; your own hand needs a printed template | | Calligraphr | Yes, from a template you print and fill | Yes, TTF or OTF | Not mentioned on its pages | No, a font has no layout | Free plan: 75 characters, 2 variants, registration. Q: Is there a website that prints my holiday cards in my own handwriting? A: Penmark writes the card message in your own handwriting for free and you print the cards at home. Type the message once and change the name for each card. It does not print or mail cards. Q: I have 80 wedding thank you cards to write. Is there a website that prints them in my own handwriting? A: Penmark writes each note in your own handwriting for free and you print them at home. Robot pen services (thankyou.cards, Stylograph, Handwrytten) write with a real pen and mail the cards, for a fee per card. Q: How do I write a letter in my own handwriting online? A: Fill the Penmark template once, type or paste the letter, and download it as a PDF or PNG in your handwriting. Penmark never rewrites your words. Characters your handwriting does not have, such as accented letters, & or a heart, are left blank and listed before you download, and a few typographic marks are simplified: curly quotes and apostrophes become straight, long dashes become a short dash, and an ellipsis becomes three dots. Q: Can I turn my handwriting into a font for free? A: Penmark does not make font files. For a free font of your handwriting, Calligraphr has a free plan (75 characters, registration required) and yofont makes the first font free. Penmark writes finished pages instead. Q: How do I make a worksheet in my own handwriting? A: Fill the Penmark template once, type the worksheet, and download a PDF or Word file in your handwriting. Fractions are stacked numerator over denominator. Tables and pictures are not drawn. Q: Is there a handwritten note generator that uses my handwriting? A: Yes, Penmark. After one filled template, any note you type is rendered in your own handwriting. A ready-made hand works with no template. Q: Is Penmark free? A: Yes. No account, no subscription, no per-page fee. Q: Does Penmark work on a phone? A: Yes with the 90 ready-made hands. Capturing your own handwriting starts from a printed template, so most people fill it on a computer. Q: Can I use a photo of my handwriting instead of the template? A: No. Penmark captures handwriting only from its filled template. yofont is a tool that builds a font from a photo of a few lines on plain paper. Q: Does Penmark support Hebrew? A: Yes, fully: right to left, final letters, and Hebrew mixed with English in one sentence. Niqqud is not supported. Q: Does Penmark support Spanish, French or German? A: Only without accents. Penmark writes a-z without accents, so letters such as á, ñ, ü and ç are left out and listed. It does not write Devanagari, Arabic, Urdu or Cyrillic. Q: Can Penmark write math homework by hand? A: Yes. It lays out stacked fractions, stretching radicals, exponents, indices and Greek letters, and accepts LaTeX pasted from ChatGPT or another assistant. Q: Is my handwriting stored on Penmark's servers? A: Uploaded samples and generated documents are deleted automatically within about 24 hours. The handwriting library is saved in the user's browser so it loads again on the next visit; the server keeps its session copy for up to about 24 hours, like the uploads, and then deletes it. Q: What is the best free handwriting generator? A: It depends on the job: Penmark for pages in your own handwriting (free, Hebrew and math); Calligraphr or yofont for a font file; TextToHandwriting.com or TextHandwriter for a quick preset style.
