Classroom worksheets in your own handwriting, without rewriting every page

Your students know your handwriting from the board, and a worksheet in it feels like something you made for them, because you did. Writing every worksheet by hand, plus a second version for the group that finished early, is where the evenings go. With Penmark you type the worksheet once and it prints in your handwriting, fractions and all.

The short answer: To make a worksheet in your own handwriting: fill the Penmark template once with a dark pen (about 10-20 minutes in total) and upload a photo of each page. Then type the worksheet, pick lined or grid paper, and download a PDF or Word file to print. A ready-made hand works immediately. Free, no account. You get finished pages, not an installable font file.

Languages, no fine print: Penmark writes the Latin letters a-z without accents (so English, Indonesian and Tagalog are written in full), Hebrew without niqqud, digits and math. It does not write Devanagari (Hindi, Marathi, Nepali), Arabic or Urdu script, Cyrillic (Russian, Ukrainian), or accented Latin letters such as á, ñ, ü, ç and ş. In Spanish, Turkish, German or French text those letters are left out, and the tool lists which ones.

A Grade 5 fractions worksheet rendered by the Penmark engine in the ready-made Kalam hand on lined paper: name and date lines, an addition of two stacked fractions, a word problem about pencils.
A real page from the Penmark engine, in Kalam, one of the 90 ready-made hands, printed like writing on a board. With your own filled template the same worksheet comes out in your handwriting. The fraction is built numerator over denominator; the rows of dots are the answer blanks.

Your hand, every page

Each character is captured three times from your template and alternated, so page ten still looks handwritten.

Math like on the board

Stacked fractions, radicals, exponents, comparison signs and Greek letters, from plain text or LaTeX.

PDF or Word to print

Lined, grid, dotted or blank paper, in blue or black ink.

Change the numbers for the second group and download again. The handwriting stays yours.

How it works

  1. Print the English template (7 pages, 128 characters) and write each character three times with a dark pen, the way you write on the board
  2. Photograph each page flat from above with the four black corner squares in view, and upload it. About 10-20 minutes in total, once
  3. Type the worksheet: title, name line, then one question per line, with each fraction or formula on a line of its own
  4. Choose lined or grid paper, check the preview, and tune the size and line spacing
  5. Download the PDF or Word file and print; for another version, edit the numbers and download again

Why a worksheet in the teacher's handwriting

In the early grades especially, the teacher's handwriting is part of the classroom. Children read it on the board, in the margins and on the notes home, and a worksheet in a computer font looks like it came out of a workbook. A page in your hand looks like it came from you, and some teachers find it also models neat writing better than a typeface does.

The catch has always been time. One handwritten worksheet is fine; three levels, a fixed typo in question 4 and next year's copy are not. Once the worksheet is typed, fixing it means changing one number and downloading again.

What it writes, and what you add

Penmark writes text and math: questions, instructions, stacked fractions, exponents, radicals, comparison signs and Greek letters, in English, Hebrew or both on one page. Put each fraction or formula on a line of its own, and mark answer blanks with a row of dots, because the template has no underscore.

It does not draw tables, number lines, pictures or graphs, and it has no dotted tracing letters for handwriting practice. Leave empty lines for those and add them by hand after printing, or place the downloaded page into a document that already has the table. About 100 words fill a page at the default size, which is a comfortable worksheet.

Do I need a font file instead?

If you want to type in your handwriting inside Word, Google Slides or Canva, or sell resources on Teachers Pay Teachers with your handwriting as the typeface, you need an installable font file, and Penmark does not make one. Calligraphr builds a TTF or OTF from your handwriting and is the right tool for that; yofont builds one from a photo of a few lines on plain paper. The Calligraphr comparison covers the difference in detail.

If what you want is the finished worksheet, Penmark is the shorter road: no font to install, three variations per letter instead of one, and math laid out properly, which a font cannot do. On a phone you can try it with a ready-made hand right away; the template itself needs a printer, so fill it on a computer.

Questions & answers

How do I make a worksheet in my own handwriting?

Fill the Penmark template once with a pen (about 10-20 minutes in total) and upload a photo of each page. Then type the worksheet and download it as a PDF or Word file in your handwriting. It is free and needs no account.

Do I get a font file?

No. Penmark makes finished pages (PDF, Word or PNG), not an installable font. If you need a font file for Word, Slides or Teachers Pay Teachers, Calligraphr is the tool for that.

Does it handle fractions and math?

Yes. Fractions are stacked numerator over denominator, with radicals, exponents, comparison signs and Greek letters. Type them as plain text or LaTeX.

Can I add a table or a picture to the worksheet?

Not inside Penmark: it writes text and math only. Leave space and draw the table by hand, or place the downloaded page in a document that has one.

Can I make dotted tracing letters for handwriting practice?

No. Penmark writes in a solid hand. Tracing worksheets need a dedicated tracing font.

Can I make several versions of the same worksheet?

Yes. Edit the numbers or the questions and download again. Each page takes seconds.
